Angels

Beloved,

I have had a few angelic encounters and prophetic dreams that actually came to pass, but I would like to share a true story about an angel "unawares" that I met many years ago. The year was 2003 and I went to church on a Sunday evening. There were about a dozen people sitting in the first three pews on the right side and the left side of the sanctuary. I came in late so I sat in the fourth row by myself on the left side of the sanctuary. I noticed a lady sitting in front of me, all alone, and I knew I had never seen her before.

When the service ended, I began speaking to the woman sitting in front of me. She was an elderly woman sitting all alone. She told me that she was visiting and that she had rented a room two blocks away above a restaurant. She told me that she walked over to visit the church. It was winter and the temperature outside had dropped to thirty degrees. I offered her a ride to where she was staying. I began asking her questions while I was driving her to her room and she began to share that she was just passing through. She told me that she was walking across the country. She told me that she walked everywhere. She shared that she was a missionary and that God always protected her, kept her healthy and whenever she was tired of walking, He would send someone to give her a ride. She said she was never afraid. She told me that she had money in the bank if she needed anything.

I remember thinking, why would this woman, who had to be about seventy five years old, be walking from city to city, alone, in the winter. I wondered why she didn't own a vehicle. I just didn't understand.

I told her that I worked three blocks from where she was staying and offered to buy her lunch the next day. I wanted to hear more about her. I had never met anyone like her before. She accepted my offer and agreed to meet me the next day at the restaurant below the room where she was staying. The following day, when I went on my lunch break, I drove to the restaurant. I walked in but I did not see her. I went ahead and got us a table and asked a waitress if she was still staying in the room above, because she was supposed to meet me at noon. The waitress told me that she was there and that she would be down in a few minutes.

After waiting forty-five minutes for her, I told the waitress that I had to get back to work. I told her that I wanted to pay for that lady's lunch and asked if I could leave some money with her so the woman could order whatever she wanted. The waitress told me that would be fine. I told her that I had to leave and asked her to let the woman know that I was sorry that I missed her, but I could not wait any longer. I left my cell phone number with the waitress and asked her tell the woman to call me if she needed anything.

As I was headed for the door, the woman came into the restaurant. I apologized to her for having to rush off and I asked her to call me. I really wanted to talk to her some more, but I had to get back to work. There was something about her that had my curiosity on overdrive. Sadly, I never saw her again. I never heard from her. I never received a phone call.

I went back to that restaurant Wednesday evening before church services to see if she was still staying there and they said she checked out right after she had lunch that Monday. I went on to church but I could not stop thinking about that woman. I wondered where she went and I still could not understand why a woman her age would be walking across country, alone, in the freezing cold of winter. She had a thin coat but wore a long skirt with normal flat shoes. I remember thinking this poor woman was going to freeze to death.

After the service ended that Wednesday evening, I asked two of the women at church if they remembered that woman who was visiting Sunday evening. I told them that she sat directly behind them that evening. They had no idea who I was talking about. They both stated that they never saw her. I started asking others and not one single person even remembered seeing that woman there Sunday night. I began wondering how it was possible that not one single person, not even the pastor, remembered seeing that woman there, especially when there were only a handful of people that were there that Sunday evening. I couldn't believe that someone wouldn't notice a stranger in their midst, especially in such a small group. I couldn't believe that none of them ever spoke to her, knowing that she was a stranger. I noticed immediately that I had never seen her before, which is why I began speaking to her immediately after the services.

Later that week, during my lunch, I decided to drop back by that restaurant where the woman was renting a room. They were closed and the building was for rent. I was hoping to speak to the waitress that was there that day to see if she knew any more about that woman, but, nobody was there. The entire building looked like it had been abandoned.

I cannot prove it, but even after all of these years, I am convinced that she was an angel. I believe that I was being tested, to see if I would notice the stranger and how I would treat her. Still, to this very day, I still think about her and wonder where she is. I don't remember her name, but I will never forget her. You've got to admit, that is very strange, right? I guess I will have my answers when I get to heaven and see her there.

I wrote about my angelic visitations and my prophetic dreams in my Testimony in Volume 1 of THE LORD IS OUR DEFENSE.
